Hvitträsk

Hi guys, I remembered yesterday that we went to Hvitträsk couple of weeks ago and I thought that I need to tell you about it! Being foreigner in Finland, I have been buying a lot of Finland guide, Helsinki guide, and somehow Hvitträsk is very rarely mentioned! It's bit tricky to get there but once you're there, it's worth! (It is located in Kirkkonummi, on the West of Helsinki, see map here).
It is nowadays a restaurant and a museum but it was built in the first place from 1901 to 1903 by three architects Herman Gesellius, Armas Lindgren and Eliel Saarinen. The main building, designed in National Romantic style, built of logs and natural stone was both a common studio and a home for Eliel Saarinen and Armas Lindgren. Gesellius lived in the courtyard building. The Saarinen home is a museum today.
I recommend strongly to visit both the museum and to have some lunch or dinner at the restaurant. I had by the way the BEST smoked salmon of my life in this restaurant, so please consider taking it! You can check the menu here. And concerning the museum, the visit will help you to understand how were living some of the most famous Finnish architects, and how they concentrated their 'savoir-faire' in order to improve. They also built Hvitträsk in the purpose of escaping from the congestion of city life.
You will also have the chance to walk around the property and to see the nice sauna they built by the White Lake.

Ps. Hvitträsk offers the possibility to be rented for private parties. Check it out!

(Yes, you will need those sexy things on your little feet :)

Albert Kahn - Paris

Hi there! Even if I'm back in Finland, I haven't had time to show you a lot of pictures from my French trips. When we went there in June for our first wedding of the Summer, we were staying a little bit in the area of Boulogne Billancourt. Usually we stay in Bastille, and I have to say that Boulogne Billancourt was great. Especially because it's less center, so you can get a better hotel and quiet environment. You definitely have to take a longer metro, but what is 20min in your day?! Anyway, after the wedding, we decided to check around the area (not the best for shopping) but we found great museums, such as the Museum Albert Kahn.  Banker, humanist, patron, Albert Kahn (1860-1940) dreamed of dialogue between people and harmony between civilizations. His dream takes shape over 4 hectares, in his former Boulogne-Billancourt property. Japanese, English and French gardens, flowers and fruit trees form a poetic haven around the museum. Every year there is an exhibition drawing on his archives from around the world, a collection of 72, 000 color photographs taken over the world between 1909 and 1931 (http://bit.ly/od4h4J). When we visited the museum, it was Japanese pictures exhibition and it was wonderful. Albert Kahn loved particularly this country, which is why he also decided to construct the Japanese garden.
Please if you are around, go and check this museum and those garden, it's absolutely WONDERFUL. Next time I'll go to Paris I will go there again without any doubt. It is peaceful, and the gardens are so well done that you would want to stay over there the whole day! Let me know what you think if you stop by!

Couple of cliches of the Japanese exhibition:

(I love those pictures so much that this one up became my screensaver)

And now couple of pictures of the gardens:

Fr: Bonjour, bonjour.

Pusuuu

Makeup/Skin Care Newcomers

Hi guys! I know I'm not a big make-up professional but I have some issues and I try to solve them. In France I had appointment to have a skin diagnosis, where I learnt a lot. Indeed I have pretty dry skin and with the climate in Finland, I tend to take dry skin creams. I learnt that by doing so, I nurture my skin with lipids = 'fat' which doesn't help my 'T line' (as I have 'blackheads' located on my nose). Indeed blackheads as you all know are caused by excess oils that have accumulated, so as I was trying to get rid off them, I was nurturing them! So I now need to only take moisturizing cream (which do not contain lipids/fat) and use dry skin cream only for the cheeks for example if the wind hurts them in winter time (but the dry skin cream needs to be very located and not applied on the whole face). For the daily moisturizing cream I use Daily Moisture Lotion from Lumene, and I will need to check on a good dry skin cream for this Winter. If you have any suggestions, they are more than welcome!
And as my cheeks and under the eyes spot get pretty dry, I should never forget to put a moisturizing eye gel to hydrate as much as I can before I put any make up on. For this purpose, I use Deep Hydration Eye Gel by Lumene (this product received the Beauty Awards 2010 from Cosmo). For people that might not know Lumene, it is a Finnish brand of cosmetics. They innovate a lot and base their products on natural raw materials that also take care of Scandinavian women's needs.
One other very important thing, cleaning your skin and taking the make-up away every day of course (not like I am giving a big news here...). I just now bought the Cream Cleanser from The Body Shop and I have to say it has been working pretty well. But my ultimate favorite for the eyes (as it is the hardest zone to clean without hurting yourself) is this Lumene Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover. And of course if it is possible, using a scrubbing cream once a week followed by a moisturizing mask would be the ideal. I promised myself to do that from now on. I use Payot Gommage Douceur for scrubbing cream and I really like it. For the moisturizing mask, I change all the time and I haven't found that great one yet (so again, if suggestions, don't hesitate). Before I left to France I did one exfoliating mask and it killed my face! My face got so dry and so damaged that I had to buy one repairing cream at the airport. I chose Deep Repairing Cream (8) from Lumene and it was GREAT! My skin started to live again from the first application.

Here are the newcomers:

1) Vitamin E Cream Cleanser from The Body Shop (as I mentioned above it is good, but I would go more for the Lumene cleanser)
2) Smoothing resurfacing primer from L'Oreal Paris: this product is simply GENIUS! Just try it on your hand in store and you will buy it right away! It works really really well! I do not use it everyday as I do not use foundation everyday (simply moisturizing cream sometime) but at this wedding I went last week end I had it and my makeup, foundation, everything stayed really well and my skin looked and felt smooth!
3) Sculpting eyebrow pencil from Chanel: really good product. I also had the chance to find the color that fit me really well (blond clair). I would advise this product that come with little brush on one side and pencil on the other side. My friends talk to me about 'eyebrow mascara' that would be great but I have never tried. Did you ever tried? In which brands? And what do you think about it?
4) Signature Lipstick from Estee Lauder: My revolution! I always have dry and chapped lips and I really tried a lot of different lipsticks, gloss, and balm that would help that problem. The tips of using gloss instead of lipstick if you tend to have dry or chapped lips is totally wrong! Gloss will only dry your lips more. If you want that gloss effect, then use one gloss but put one balm on first layer or one really moisturizing lipstick (such as Estee Lauder Signature Lipstick). I was advised to try this lipstick on first layer and then to apply other color on it if I want to. I chose the color 'tender mauve' so that I can wear it everyday. When I put it on it fit really well my lips natural color and only moisturizes them a LOT! This week end at the wedding I had this lipstick on first layer and then Rouge Replenishing Lip Color 648 by Dior on the top and it was the first time that my lips looked good the whole evening and night. Of course I had to go couple of times putting some lipstick on (after you drink and eat little bit) but my lips were in good shape and they were not chapped! This Estee Lauder Signature Lipstick is not leaving my purse anymore! I use it ALL THE TIME! And one product that I use in combination with that Estee Lauder lipstick (which will be in 'oldies that proved they work) is Rêve de Miel Lip Balm by Nuxe. This is a great product. It is really thick so I put it in the night so that it 'repairs' my lips. It is excellent for Winter and for Summer if you got your lips sunburnt and dry.
5) Rouge R24 Lipstick from Sephora. I bought it for the color mainly, I knew that Sephora wasn't the best in matter of lipstick but as I mentioned Sephora products (of the Sephora brand) are made for 'one time' use mostly. They are cheaper but they are not the best. But if I apply that Sephora lipstick up to my Estee Lauder Signature, everything will be fine ;)
6) Concerning the nailpolish, couple of them (as I am crazy about nailpolish) with Glow up Already OPI Nailpolish, Nr 501 Resist & Shine Titanium Nailpolish by L'Oreal Paris and Lime Cocktail Nailpolish by Sephora. OPI is one of my favorite brand of nailpolish: they stay really long time, colors are great and the price very reasonable. I already had the Alma Hologram 901 Nailpolish by Make Up Store that I put on the top of a unique grey color layer (See Nancy post), but I fell for this new OPI that is even more of 'party' nailpolish :) I had it last week just up to a natural rose color, and it looked really nice. The Resist & Shine by L'Oreal is good but it doesn't stay as long as the OPI. I wanted one cherry red so I went for the first I found and this nailpolish does dry fast but I am still going for OPI. And the Lime cocktail nailpolish from Sephora is really nice. I love those, they stay relatively well and their prices is low (even though really expensive for the quantity of nailpolish you have). From my experience, those Sephora nailpolish are good for colors you do not wear often because they do not live really well in their pot. After a while, you cannot really use that nailpolish anymore, so use it fast! If you have a party to attend and look for a special color, the Sephora are great. If you look for a red kind that you intend on keeping, look at OPI!
7) HydraQuench Tinted Moisturizer Gold by Clarins. This is GREAT also. I am not a big fan of foundation and as my skin is really pale, I hate looking orange. I just want to give my skin little 'in fit' aspect and little moisturizing extra. I then turn myself more to tinted moisturizer cream instead of foundation. And this Clarins one is working very well. At first when you apply it, it feels bit like you will have 'orange spots' but you need to make circle movements on your skin and if you want to, you can decide to mix it with Strobe Liquid Lotion for example (see from MAC). Moreover, when you chose those cream during Summer time, pay attention to their defense against the sun (nowadays they are usually all protecting you from the sun like this Clarins does with SPF 6).
8) Deep Repairing Cream by Lumene: GREAT product as mentioned above. I bought it after terrible exfoliating mask. I advise it very much if your skin is damaged and particularly dry and 'pulls'.

Fr: Bonjour bonjour.

1) Vitamin E Crème démaquillante de The Body Shop.

4) Rouge a lèvres Signature d'Estee Lauder.

Outfit Wedding 4/5

Hi guys, sorry I haven't been writing so much lately but I was enjoying my last days in France with family and friends. I flew back to Finland on Friday and headed right away on saturday to our 4th wedding of the Summer. We went to Porvoo, which I love. The married couple chose a FABULOUS venue: Onni Hotelli*. Even if I have been many times in Porvoo and especially visit the old town, I was never in that great cafe, hotel Onni. So Finnish friends, if you want to organize wedding, birthday or any kind of event, this place is GREAT. I will try to show you in the pictures I took how nicely it was.
We were lucky with the weather yesterday and I was happier because I knew that I had 'color block' outfit. It was simple, but to be honest, I loved it! What do you say?

Bisouuuus

Nancy

Hi guys, today I just visited Nancy, the town in which I made my first years of University. It's a very student town located approximately 2h away from Strasbourg. It is the department of Meurthe et Moselle and in the region of Lorraine. We had a super sunny day even if my outfit doesn't translate that. Indeed, in the morning it was raining in my place before I left, so I didn't take very summerish clothes (and I regretted it!). Nancy is great for young people and as I mentioned there are a lot of students because it gathers a lot of universities and different schools, which is why the town is full of restaurants, bars, night clubs and nice place to go! Moreover, there is an old town in Nancy, which always makes me feel great. I love old town, wherever they are! (That explains why I love Porvoo so much!)

Among the place to see in Nancy, the one that will come to everyone's mouth first will probably be the 'Place Stanislas'. It is a big place created by the king Stanislas becoming duke of Lorraine. It gathers the Place Stanislas, Place de la Carrière articulated by the Arc de Triomphe (porte Héré), Government Palace, fancy hotels and the Place de l'Alliance completing the place by a nice square.

Place Stanislas gives also access to Parc de la Pépiniére made of English kind of gardens. It is full of jogger as this 23ha park is in city center!
